It's difficult to see past the tried and tested combination of black, red and silver ribbed buzzers for the tail position, especially early in the season. This pattern brings together a few of my favourite buzzers from over the years, starting with Dr Bell's buzzer, John White's black & red superglue, and more recently, Alex Ferguson's JC buzzers.
The slim profile and heavy hook gets the fly down through the water quickly, making it a first choice for the tail position.
Hook: Size 10,12 or 14 Kamasan B110, or Hayabusa 387 Black nickel.
Butt: Glo-Brite No.4 or 5.
Body: Black thread.
Rib: Silver wire.
Cheeks: JC splits.
