Apart from colour-schemes, there's not really much you can do to a hog to make it your own, but then, there's not really much you'd want to do to it either. Seal's fur and deer hair, that's all there is to it, and you have one of the most useful, versatile stillwater flies there is. Use it as a wet, as a dry (Gink not needed - brush the seal's fur up into the 'wing' and it will float all day), use it as an alternative to the booby for a washing-line. This fly will do a job for you anywhere, practically any time of year​.

Tip: Tie it big on a size 10 in olive shades, or natural deer hair/hare's ear etc for a great mayfly pattern. Clarets and oranges are also well worth a go at mayfly time.
